Samsung Galaxy S III Shows Up On Support Website?
Jan 27th
We had heard that Samsung isn’t planning on introducing the Galaxy S III at Mobile World Congress. That’s why we find it surprising that a GT-I9300 appears on the Global Download Center in the United Emirates. For those playing at home, the I93XX would indicate a flagship device. The i91XX is for the Galaxy S II, while the i92XX represents the Galaxy Nexus and Note. That’s why it strikes us as surprising to see this show up on one of their websites.

This could be a simple placeholder, something that has zero bearing on when it might release. Then again, maybe news of Samsung not announcing the Galaxy S III at MWC was a great head fake.

Opinion: ASUS shows they understand the tablet market with the $250 MeMO 370T
Jan 13th
By now, you hopefully already know about the ASUS MeMO 370T. On paper, the MeMO 370T is a spec’d out 7-inch slate that features nVidia’s powerful Tegra 3 quad-core system on a chip. This tablet screams top-of-the-line, yet ASUS will offer the tablet to consumer for 0. Why would they price this thing so low, you ask?
In short, ASUS simply gets it. They understand that consumers want tablets, perhaps to even replace their laptops, but they don’t want them at laptop prices. Instead, consumers largely see tablets as cooler netbooks, and are looking to spend between 0 and 0 on these devices. Of course, the 0 and up iPad/iPad2 have bucked this tradition, but Apple has a long history of pricing themselves at the very high end of the market (or above), and still selling a multitude of devices to their fanbase.
The biggest reason Android tablet sales haven’t taken off is because they’ve been priced to compete with iPads instead of netbooks. Amazon proved this when they launched the Kindle Fire, the 0 eReader tablet hybrid that in 2 months has sold as many or more units than all previous Android tablets combined. HP’s Touchpad tablets sold out in minutes when they were dropped to 0-150 in HP’s inventory eliminating fire-sale. The 0 Nook Tablet has proven no slouch either, making Barnes and Noble’s nook line one of their most profitable divisions.
In order for tablet makers (including Apple) to compete, they’re going to have to continue to offer tablets for less, a point ASUS has certainly taken to heart with the MeMO 370T. The launch of the MeMO 370T was likely the biggest and best surprise of CES 2012, and we’re happy to see companies starting to offer powerful tablets at incredibly affordable prices. We hope to see this trend continue; in fact, we think it has to continue if Android tablet sales are ever going to take off.
NASA shows first global image taken from new satellite; Captain Planet approves
Dec 17th

From breaking the ice on Jupiter’s moon Europa to going Captain Ahab on comets, NASA’s been quite busy formulating all sorts of “strategery” for future projects lately. But just because the space agency has to pay Russians to hitch a ride to space these days doesn’t mean it has nothing going on in the present. Check out the first image from NASA’s NPOESS Preparatory Project (NPP) satellite. The satellite launched October 28th and, eventually, will be able to measure anything from ocean temps to fire locations. While it can’t do all of that just yet, the NPP satellite is at least capable of taking global images with its Visible Infrared Imager Radiometer Suite (VIIRS). The satellite is placed in a sun-synchronous orbit that lets it sync with the areas it covers at roughly the same time of day. The result? All images will have the same lighting since the satellite maintains the same angle between the Earth and the sun.

Verizon and Redbox Plan To Offer Streaming Movie and TV Shows In 2012
Dec 7th

Verizon is reportedly in talks with Redbox to team up and compete with Netflix by offering streaming video content to a variety of devices and set top boxes. The new service, code named Project Zoetrope, will be an internet only service and be available for devices running iOS, Android, Google TV, Xbox and other streaming boxes and browsers. Apparently, it’s still being worked out with content providers and will follow the typical blackout and release timings for new movies and television to keep execs happy.

According to TechCrunch, you can expect a launch on May 28th with a beta starting sometime in late April. Pricing structure is a little bit out of the norm with monthly credits along the lines of for 6 credits to rent a movie costing 1 credit. Seeing how Rebox also offers physical disc rentals at their kiosks around the country, there will also be various pricing tiers offering physical rentals as well. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
