Deal Alert: Samsung Epic 4G Touch Now Only $80 On Amazon Wireless
Jan 29th

Amazon Wireless has just dropped the price of both the black and white versions of the Samsung Epic 4G Touch Galaxy S II on Sprint. Arguably the best handset on the carrier, the black Epic 4G Touch is actually being offered for slightly less than its pale sibling, coming in at only for new customers. If you’re looking to add a line the device goes up to 0 and for customers looking to upgrade, the device can be had for 0. Pretty much the same goes for the white version except that whether you’re a new customer or looking to add a line, the device will still run you 0.
All-in-all, this is the lowest we’ve seen the device listed where it’s still being sold for 0 online at Sprint.com, and in Sprint stores. I recently gave in and traded up my HTC Evo 3D in for this device and I can honestly say — without a doubt — that I’ve never been a happier little Phandroid. Links provided below.

Samsung Epic 4G 2 (SPH-D705) Shows Up In Cellbrite System – Where’s It Headed?
Jan 28th

Right before we enter into the weekend, we get a juicy bit of news. Apparently, the Samsung SPH-D705 — otherwise known as the Epic 4G 2 — has popped up in the Cellebrite system indicating the device could be launching sometime in the very near future. Before you get mixed up, keep in mind we’re talking about the sequel to the OG Samsung EPIC 4G that was launched on Sprint and Verizon. Remember that big boned device? The one with the QWERTY keyboard?

Originally, the device was rumored to hit Sprint sometime during Q3 of 2011, but that came and went without neither hide nor hair of the Epic 4G 2. It further received its WiFi certification but still — nothing. We’re still not even sure if the device will actually arrive on Sprint. Once the Epic 4G Touch arrived on the scene, it’s very possible Sprint passed up on the Epic 4G 2 in favor of the more attractive slate form factor. Besides, how confused do you think it would make customers with the “ Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G 2″ and “Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch” both on the same network?
That being said, it’s possible we could see this device launching a smaller regional carrier similar to what happened with the HTC Merge back when it was originally supposed to hit Verizon Wireless, only to show up months later on US Cellular.

Samsung Galaxy S III Shows Up On Support Website?
Jan 27th
We had heard that Samsung isn’t planning on introducing the Galaxy S III at Mobile World Congress. That’s why we find it surprising that a GT-I9300 appears on the Global Download Center in the United Emirates. For those playing at home, the I93XX would indicate a flagship device. The i91XX is for the Galaxy S II, while the i92XX represents the Galaxy Nexus and Note. That’s why it strikes us as surprising to see this show up on one of their websites.

This could be a simple placeholder, something that has zero bearing on when it might release. Then again, maybe news of Samsung not announcing the Galaxy S III at MWC was a great head fake.

GT-i9300 appears on Samsung support site, could be Galaxy S III
Jan 27th

If Samsung doesn’t make any drastic changes to their model numbering conventions, the Samsung Galaxy S III may very well have just appeared on the company’s official support site. Listed among Samsung’s various smartphones is the GT-i9300, a model number that sequentially follows the GT-i9xx series (Galaxy S), GT-i91xx (Galaxy S II), and GT-i92xx ( Galaxy Nexus and Note). There is always the possibility that this turns out to be some other upcoming handset or a variation on a current design, as clicking on the device model doesn’t reveal any further information. We may not have an answer as soon as we’d like, as Samsung is rumored to be shelving the announcement of the GS3 until sometime after Mobile World Congress. The annual trade show for the mobile industry was expected to serve as a coming out party for the new flagship handset.

Samsung Galaxy S III Won’t Launch at MWC?
Jan 26th
We’re eagerly awaiting the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S III, which many had pegged for Mobile World Congress taking place next month. Last year, Samsung used the same venue to introduce the Galaxy S II, which went on to have a successful year on numerous carriers. The Verge is reporting that sources familiar with the matter say Samsung had planned to announce the Galaxy S III, but have since changed course.
The reason for the change sounds plausible. The long delay between announcement at MWC and the US launch is reason for concern. While it didn’t hurt sales of the Galaxy S II, the freshness of a new S III would remain in tact if the company chose to announce later in the calendar year.
With what we’ve seen at CES, along with the rumored delay of the Samsung Galaxy S III, don’t be surprised if the new trend moves away from announcements at major trade shows. Last year we saw a number of exclusive events for device launches. A device as major as the Samsung Galaxy S III would certainly warrant a special event. These events provide a single focus and allows manufacturers to essentially own the day.
