Samsung Galaxy S III now available for pre-order on T-Mobile UK
May 17th

Sure, we’d seen a handful of other carriers in the UK have Sammy’s GS3 up for pre-order, but that circle wouldn’t be complete without a certain Magenta network. Worry not, though, as T-Mobile’s joined the pre-order race and is now ready to swap your cash for a spanking-new Galaxy slab. Per usual — at least across the pond — you’re likely to find a deal that’s perfectly suited for you, with T-Mobile UK pricing the device as low £10.50 per month (£300 up front) and as high as £41 with the Full Monty on a 24-month deal — of course, there’s a plethora of different bundles to choose from. The carrier’s site does note that if you order the goods now, unlike those lucky folks getting it on the 29th, delivery here is set for sometime after May 30th.

Mystery Samsung phone with Snapdragon S4 pops up in benchmarks, may or may not be Verizon’s Galaxy S III
May 15th

While pre-release benchmarks have a very hit or miss record for clues as to what future devices will bring, they almost always raise eyebrows. Nowhere is that more true than in a round of NenaMark2 testing uncovered this weekend: a previously unknown Samsung SCH-i535 for Verizon has tipped up sporting a 1.5GHz, dual-core Snapdragon S4 instead of one of Samsung’s own chips, like the Exynos 4 Quad. Given that the SCH-i515 is the model badge for Verizon’s Galaxy Nexus, it’s not a great leap in logic to speculate that this is a custom version of the Galaxy S III. It’s entirely possible that something else might fit the bill, but knowing that Samsung has used Snapdragons itself to include 4G before and that HTC just recently switched up the One X with an S4 to give it LTE on North American networks, we may be looking at the compromise Samsung needs to make to get its 4.8-inch gigantophone on Big Red.

Samsung Galaxy S3 hits the FCC
May 15th

It looks like the Samsung Galaxy S3 is just another step closer to making its way to North America as it hit the FCC this morning. This device supports AT&T’s HSPA+ radios, but will not work on T-Mobile’s as those users would likely be stuck on Edge. Couple in in the fact that LTE is absent and we’d say this one is going to be headed straight for the great white north.
Of course, no North American carriers have announced plans to carry the device but we’re alright with assuming some will in due time. In the meantime, if Samsung wanted to sell the Galaxy S3 in North America right now, they very well could. That’s worth something, right? [via Engadget]

Android 4.0 starts rolling out for German Galaxy Notes
May 13th

Owners of a German Galaxy Note, rejoice! Samsung has quietly started the roll-out of Android 4.0, dubbed version number LPY, to German branded Galaxy Notes. Although you don’t necessarily have to own a German Note, your model number should be N7000 in order to install the update.
We decided to immediately give it a spin but there was just one minor problem: None of our Notes are German. And that’s where CheckFus comes in handy: This program allows you to download official firmwares for basically all Samsung devices — including Bada. The downloaded files then need to be decrypted using the same program and flashed through Odin.
So, that’s what we did and after a few minutes of booting, we were greeted by the familiar Touchwiz launcher. Yes, Touchwiz is still included, omnipresent and the update is almost identical to the Galaxy S II. Speed improved a little, and according to Tweakers.net graphics have also improved. The most apparent changes are in the S Pen software though. In addition to the S Memo app, there is now S Note, a more extended and improved version of S Memo. For those who are not quite ready to let go of S Memo, it is still included. The browser has received a minor speedbump but hey, you’ll probably be using Chrome anyway.
A long wished feature was hovering with the S Pen to reveal pull down menus in, say, websites. Yes, that’s also included.
Should you install the update? Definately, there is no harm in slapping a little Touchwiz-flavored ICS on your Note. For you purists, there is an unofficial and experimental version of CM9 as well.
