Samsung’s Galaxy S II celebrates 20 million sold, just in time for MWC

After crossing the 10 million units moved threshold back in September, Samsung has joyously announced ahead of MWC 2012 that its Galaxy S II family of phones has sold 20 million since launching in April. According to Samsung, taking just ten months to hit the mark puts it ahead of the original Galaxy S (hovering around 22 million sold) by seven months. The hallmarks of this model — in its many forms as seen above for AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint — has been the Super AMOLED Plus screen, slim design and dual core CPUs, all of which made it a record breaker right out of the gate. Samsung’s been pretty quiet as Mobile World Congress 2012 approaches, but whenever we see the Galaxy S III, it will certainly have a lot to live up to.

LG announces quad-core Optimus 4X HD

LG just couldn’t contain themselves and decided to unveil their entire 2012 lineup before Mobile World Congress. Tonight the Korean company has officially announced the Optimus 4X HD. This is the quad-core beast formerly known as the LG X3 and also the same phone that we think will launch as the T-Mobile G4X.
The main attraction of the Optimus 4X HD is of course the Tegra 3 processor which features 4-PLUS-1 CPU cores. Right now the official press release out of Korea does not include the full specs, so we will have to wait for MWC to find out the full list of hardware.
Confirmed specs of the Optimus 4X HD include:
- Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
- 1.5 GHz quad-core Tegra 3 processor
- 4.7 inch 720p True HD IPS display
- 8 megapixel rear camera, 1.3 megapixel front camera
- 1 GB RAM, 16 GB internal storage
- 2150 mAh battery
- Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, WiFi 802.11b/g/n
- MHL, DLNA, etc.
- 8.9 mm thick
- SHSPA+ 21 Mbps support
One version of the press release claims the Optimus 4X HD would ship with Android 4.0, so this would be LG’s first device with Ice Cream Sandwich. As more details continue to roll in, we will update this post.

HTC Teases The Masses On Facebook With Cryptic Message

HTC has taken to Facebook to tease us in advance of Mobile World Congress. After a relatively quiet CES, the company is ramping up excitement in advance of MWC. There are no shortage of rumors and now comes a bit of teaser via Facebook.
They posted grayscale HTC phone icon with a ’5′ in the middle with the caption, “This Sunday you’ll discover something fast.”

Verizon Droid Fighter and LG Cayman Coming

The crew at Droid-Life have come upon a screenshot showing new phones coming to Verizon Wireless. The Droid Fighter is scheduled for April 12th and there is no word on whether this is a Samsung, Motorola or HTC phone. One thing is for certain, this might be the coolest phone name in recent memory.
The LG Cayman is still a mystery, but it’s targeted for a March 29th release.
There you have it, the Verizon Wireless roadmap for at least the next month or so.

How will Google top last year’s Android booth at MWC?

Last year at Mobile World Congress, Google had the coolest booth at the show, literally. I bet I downed a dozen of their fruit smoothies. This year they are planning something even more over the top, and they have a countdown teaser on their MWC page. Check out last year’s festivities in the video below and let us know what you would like to see this year.
HTC Ville Accessories Suggest It’s Coming To T-Mobile

If a major wireless carrier is about to start stock accessories, then it’s a good bet there will be an associated phone to follow. That seems to be the case here with T-Mobile. A leaked sheet shows HTC Ville accessories including screen protectors, Powerskin and a charging dock. The accessories are scheduled to be released on April 4th.
Also included in this list are accessories for the Huawei Prism. T-Mobile has also recently registered ‘Prism’ related domain names. These are scheduled to be available on March 14th.
